HAPPY BELATED 'BIRTHDAY'

To Jeopardy, perhaps the greatest game show ever. 50 years old yesterday, 30 of them with Alex Trebek (grow back the mustache Alex!). I started watching the show about 40 years ago, back when Art Fleming was the host & Don Pardo (later to do the opening intro at SNL) was the announcer. It is such a great game show, one that actually requires knowing things, which is what makes it so special (at least to me). It was always such fun to play along with the show, and occasionally even win a game.
Another 50 years (and the question is -  how long should Jeopardy continue?).

FOUND ON LINKEDIN

“As an example, you may have successfully brought on 50 new clients in your time with your previous company--use this as a segway into how you plan to increase sales for your potential employer.”

And park that segue in front of the fake-ade!

ONE SHOT

By Lee Child:

‘Reacher checked his watch. Time ticking away. He stepped up close.
“You got medical insurance?” he asked.
The guy nodded.
“Dental plan?”
The guy nodded again.
Reacher hit him in the mouth. Right-handed, short swing, hard blow.
“Get that fixed,” he said.’

COINCIDENCE? MAYBE NOT...

Cut this out of the paper a few months back. Couldn't help but notice the odd pairing of movies; especially the movie paired with the Justin Beiber movie...truer words perhaps never spoken???

SPEAKING OF ZOMBIES...

For all you Walking Dead fans out there ("Look at the flowers, Lizzie") here's the t-shirt my daughter bought me for my birthday...
Cool, isn't it?

JOHN DIES AT THE END

By David Wong: ‘Something coming back from the dead was almost always bad news. Movies taught me that. For every one Jesus you get a million zombies.’

BEER #1114

Tatra Beer from  Poland. Found this at the International Food Club in Orlando; what a great store, lots of foods from all around the world – mainly Europe & the Middle East. Also a small selection of beer singles, mostly from Eastern Europe & England. So this is a tasty lager, certainly a bit more flavor than American lagers, a nice drink for a hot day.
The thing that struck me is the label – a variant is reproduced below. Mine is in English, but the Polish version translates from MOC Z CHARAKTEREM to BEER WITH CHARACTER. Just struck me as a humorous thing to see on a beer label, sounds more like a wine kind of thing!

But, if you get a chance, pick one up and drink it on a nice hot day...
okrzyki!…

UNLEASHED

By Emily Kimelman:
“We are saddled with endless laws, rules, regulations, statutes, ordinances, mandates, and acts of Congress that it makes me wonder if this country is even a democracy at all or just a bureaucratic artifice.”

HARRY HARRISON ON 'TRUTHS'

“Just because you know a thing is true in theory, doesn't make it true in fact. The barbaric religions of primitive worlds hold not a germ of scientific fact, though they claim to explain all. Yet if one of these savages has all the logical ground for his beliefs taken away — he doesn't stop believing. He then calls his mistaken beliefs 'faith' because he knows they are right. And he knows they are right because he has faith. This is an unbreakable circle of false logic that can't be touched. In reality, it is plain mental inertia. A case of thinking 'what always was' will also 'always be.' And not wanting to blast the thinking patterns out of the old rut.”

BREWHUB

Ohhh, yeahhh…coming soon (April/May) to a Lakeland near me! Can’t wait, will be contract brewing (for starters) for Cigar City, Orange Blossom Pilsner, & B.J.’s Brewhouse. And they hope to add more later. Of course, they will have a tasting room, so that should be fun.
Just need to find somewhere to drop the wife off once or twice a month to keep her occupied,
while I keep my mouth occupied tasting new beers!

REALLY?

'County leaders said they've looked into the issues and are under strict regulations from state water officials. They say sinkholes shouldn't be a problem but residents don't buy that. They plan to fight until the end.
"Beyond the end, if we need to," said Jones.'

Really? Let me know how
that works for you...

WHO KNEW?

phillumenist:

‘A person who collects match-related items, like matchbox labels, matchboxes, matchbooks, or matchbook covers.’

Oddly enough, for many years I collected matchbooks; back when smoking wasn’t verboten it was easy to find them pretty much everywhere – hell, our wedding info was written on matchbooks from the place Phyl and I met way back when and we put them with the place settings at our wedding reception! Still have the matchbooks somewhere, had a few thousand and they’re in the garage; the point being I never knew there was a name for collecting them, go figure…

NOW WE KNOW 'GANGNAM STYLE'

Patients' names were written on the bones

A plastic surgery clinic in Seoul's chic Gangnam district has been fined for displaying a decorative tower made of bone removed from patients' chins, it appears.

TRUER WORDS WERE NEVER SPOKEN

“Information is not knowledge.
Knowledge is not wisdom.
Wisdom is not truth.
Truth is not beauty.
Beauty is not love.
Love is not music.
Music is THE BEST.”

GOOD FOR THE PAIN, YOUR BRAIN...AND YOUR STOMACH

Saw this in Time magazine the other day. Apparently a Girl Scout in San Francisco set up outside a marijuana dispensary & sold 117 boxes of cookies in two hours. This was a 46% increase over the number of boxes she had sold outside a grocery store.
Seems to me the Girl Scouts should set up a permanent cookie shelf inside all the dispensaries and sell those cookies all year long!
(Of course it's photoshopped!)
