DID YOU KNOW?

A banana is technically a berry…
but a strawberry is not!
Melons can be considered both a fruit AND a vegetable.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to a study by Caltech & UCLA there is one nerve cell in the human brain that reacts to pictures of Jennifer Aniston, and only Jennifer Aniston. There is another one that responds to pictures of Halle Berry - even in her Catwoman mask!
Isn't that just crazy; just think, millions of nerve cells and each one responding to just one person...

(from Feb.2014 National Geographic)

(those 2 neurons are working overtime now, aren't they?

WHO KNEW?

phillumenist:

‘A person who collects match-related items, like matchbox labels, matchboxes, matchbooks, or matchbook covers.’

Oddly enough, for many years I collected matchbooks; back when smoking wasn’t verboten it was easy to find them pretty much everywhere – hell, our wedding info was written on matchbooks from the place Phyl and I met way back when and we put them with the place settings at our wedding reception! Still have the matchbooks somewhere, had a few thousand and they’re in the garage; the point being I never knew there was a name for collecting them, go figure…

BANGORRHEA

Meaning the overuse of exclamation points...
who knew?

According to the late author, Elmore Leonard, "Keep your exclamation points under control. You are allowed no more than two or three per 100,000 words of prose."

NICE JOB IF YOU CAN GET IT

Director Steven Spielberg was at number two (in earnings)with $100m (£64m).
Most of his earnings came from his back catalogue of film hits such as ET and Jurassic Park - which has just been released in 3D to mark its 20th anniversary - as well as last year's Oscar winning Lincoln.
The director also takes a cut of all ticket sales at Universal Studios theme parks.
(wow!)

DID YOU KNOW...DO YOU CARE?

If you change one letter,  ‘unseasonably’ - as in                           warm; becomes ‘unreasonably’…

DID YOU KNOW?

George Orwell’s father worked for the British Opium Department - which was actually in charge of the poppy growing that ended up making 4,000 tons a year of opium, mostly for sale to the Chinese.

DID YOU KNOW...?

In the late 1970s, confiscated bales of marijuana were so numerous in Florida, that the police couldn't store them all. So what did they do? Why, they gave it to Florida Power & Light to burn in their generating stations!

So it turns out that 736 pounds of marijuana = 1 barrel of oil

Perhaps something we should look into, with the price of oil being what it is these days...

I YAM WHAT I YAM

Popeye...which brings us to today's topic. The founder of Popeye's Chicken died the other day, which brought to light an interesting fact.
Apparently, Al Copeland, who started out with a one man donut show, later went into the fried chicken biz after seeing the success that KFC
was having. The interesting part is that the chain was named after Popeye Doyle, the character in The French Connection, and not
Popeye the spinach eating sailor. Go figure! The funny thing is, shortly before moving to Florida (late 80s) there was a Popeye's
grand opening in a town near where we lived. So we went, being that it was the first Popeye's near us back then, and who did they
have at the grand opening celebration...
...Popeye the Sailor!

ON THIS DATE

On this date in 1969, John Fairfax of Britain arrived at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.,
to become the first person to row across the Atlantic alone.

Rumor has it his first words were:
"I claim this land for the Queen of Spain...is this India?"

Well, it could have happened that way...you never know...
all that time alone in a rowboat...

In keeping with the high price of gas, here's an energy factoid for you:

The U.S. is spending $5.6 Billion per month in Iraq

However...

In 4 years of U.S. energy research & development, only $6.0 Billion has been spent.

Priorities...priorities...

DID YOU KNOW...???

Tiny Tim started his career singing 1950s doo-wop under the stage name 'Larry Love'.

Computer glitches became known as 'bugs' after a moth shorted out a circuit board in the room-size Mark 1 computer built in 1944 at Harvard University.

Orange Marmalade was first created in 18th Century England when a trader bought bushels of oranges from the Seville, Spain Cathedral. When he got them home, he found them too bitter
to eat, so he tried to make jam from the rinds. In order to make them edible, he had to add
pounds of sugar to the batch to make it palatable...voila...marmalade. The Jardin de los Naranjos
can still be seen at the Seville Cathedral...the birthplace of marmalade.

DID YOU KNOW...???

The pattern on the boxes of Scotch Brand Tape is actually based
on the Tartan of the Wallace Clan (as in William Wallace, who the movie 'Braveheart'
was loosely based on).

Know you know...do you care?
