TODAY IN HISTORY

Stanley Kubrick's Dr Strangelove premiered in 1964; arguably one of the best (nuclear)war satires ever filmed.

And if that wasn't enough, in 1845 Edgar Allan Poe's poem The Raven was first published.

Seen it, read it...? If not, then do both...I mean right now...

HOLLOWLAND

By Amanda Hocking:

breaking down the back door."

SERIOUSLY?

Forty-two years after it was released, classic family film
The Railway Children has
prompted its first complaint to the British Board of
Film Classification.
"The correspondent was concerned that children
may be encouraged to play on railway tracks as
a result of seeing the film," the BBFC's annual report
reveals.
(Yes, stupidity never ends, does it?)

FIRST CANNED BEER

Canned beer makes its debut on this day in 1935. In partnership with the American Can Company, the Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company delivered 2,000 cans of Krueger's Finest Beer and Krueger's Cream Ale to faithful Krueger drinkers in Richmond, Va. Ninety-one percent of the drinkers approved of the canned beer, driving Krueger to give the green light to further production.

CANCELLED!

Well, that’s a bummer. Just found out the Cheech & Chong show for next month has been cancelled. And I bought my wife a pair of tickets for Xmas this year – 8th row center no less. Don’t know why they cancelled, but since they didn’t call it ‘postponed’ I guess there’s no chance of seeing them in the future. And the other bit is I scheduled our 40th wedding anniversary cruise for after the show! Sometimes you just can’t win; but as long as the ship doesn’t sink I guess we’ll be alright.
But still, how many chances do you get to see C & C in the 2010s? Especially in Central Florida…bummer

ORBITAL-1 ANTARES LAUNCH

I like this with the water tower, looks like the rocket is escaping the aliens from the original 'War of the Worlds' book.

MLK DAY

Martin Luther King Day today; hope everyone who has the day off is either marching in a parade or standing out in the cold watching a parade – TV doesn’t count…

SAINT ARNOLD OF SOISSONS ON BEER

“From man’s sweat and God’s love, beer came into the world.”
(And apparently he has his own brewery.)
