Competition between independent liquor stores and big-box retailers has intensified in Tampa Bay and around the country.
Discount department store chain Wal-Mart is selling Budweiser,
Coors and other beer brands at “razor thin profit margins,” Bloomberg News reported.
Consumer companies and retailers “are always on this seesaw between lower prices to drive demand and … higher prices to try to build their margins, ”
Bloomberg’s Duane Stanford
said Walmart aims to double alcohol sales by 2016.
"The chain uses cheap beer to attract customers who are likely to buy other items as well", he said.
The relevant word being ‘cheap’!
