Brewer CEO makes statement at regulatory conference.
After months of negative publicity, Anheuser-Busch intends to pull the controversial Spykes malt beverage from the market.
A-B CEO August Busch IV declared the brewer's intention today during a panel discussion at the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association conference in La Quinta, Calif., according to two people who saw the speech.
A-B's specific plans couldn't be determined.
Spykes, a malt beverage that's 12 percent alcohol by volume, comes in fruity flavors and is sold in 2-ounce bottles.
Spykes came under fire from advocacy groups that argue it appeals to minors.
...Or maybe it just sucked and no-one bought it...
